Robert “Bobby” Mathieson
Robert “Bobby” Mathieson served for 27 years (1975 – 2002) as a Master Police Officer with the Virginia Beach Police Department. His many assignments included: patrol; vice and narcotics; community relations; and crime prevention. In 2002, he was appointed to serve as the Deputy Director of the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services, a position he retired from in 2007. He was elected to the House of Delegates in the Virginia General Assembly representing a portion of Virginia Beach from 2008 - 2010.
In 2011, he was nominated by President Obama, and unanimously confirmed by the U.S. Senate, to be the U.S. Marshal for the Eastern District of Virginia. He served as U.S. Marshal for nearly eight years before retiring in 2019, completing more than four decades in law enforcement and public service.
